Reimagined

The brief was to introduce a lift into a fully renovated and furnished Grade II house without disturbing its historic fabric. The solution was conceived as a vertical sculptural element, threaded through the centre of the building and enclosed by the existing Portland stone staircase. Its geometry, materials, and proportions were carefully considered so that the new form would sit naturally within the narrow, spiralling void.

Working within extremely tight tolerances, the team undertook much of the installation by hand, coordinating structural adjustments, services, and lift engineering within millimetres. The layered glass and metal enclosure was detailed to catch shifting patterns of light and shadow, so it subtly transforms throughout the day ; reflective and translucent in daylight, and becoming a gentle lantern in the evening.

The result is a surprisingly natural addition: a refined intervention that binds the floors together, giving clarity, coherence, and new vertical continuity to the space.
